Anne Frank: A spunky, mercurial Jewish girl who writes a diary while in

hiding from the Nazis during World War II. She’s a bit mischievous, blunt,

lively, likes to play the clown and is the heart of the story. She is quick in her

movements and interested in everything. Loves to talk.

Otto Frank: Anne's father. He is a kind, gentle Jewish businessman who left

Germany after Hitler's rise to power, hoping to find refuge in Holland. His

movements are brisk, his manners confident. He is an honest, trustworthy,

reliable family man and friend. A leader.

Edith Frank: Anne's mother. She is kind, gently bred, and reserved. It is

upsetting to her that she is the source of many conflicts with Anne during the

two years the family spends in hiding. She is a peacemaker.

Margot Frank: Anne’s sister. She is beautiful, quiet, calm, serious, shy,

smart and known as the “good” one.

Miep Gies: A compassionate and protective woman who works in the office

below the "Secret Annexe." She is very trustworthy and helps obtain food and

supplies for the group in hiding and helps keep their spirits up.

Peter Van Daan: The Van Daans' son. He is a shy, calm, awkward boy.

Mr. Kraler: A Dutch Gentile businessman who has been an associate of Mr.

Frank and Mr. Van Daan and who takes over the running of the business when

they are no longer able to do so. He works in the office in the building

underneath where the "Secret Annexe" is located, and he helps with technical,

logistical aspects, such as obtaining food for the people in hiding. He is

dependable, kind and wears a hearing aid.

Mrs. Van Daan: Mr. Van Daan's wife. Pretty, materialistic, a bit of a

complainer and worrier. Likes to tease and have fun. Protective of her son

and her personal items.

and his family also live in the "Secret Annexe.” He’s a nervous, portly man with

a bit of an ill temper. He’s a smoker. Very well dressed and can be selfish.
