Hopewell Valley Central High School
Performing Arts Season 2016-2017

Our Fall Play this year is Michael Frayn’s hilarious farce, Noises Off!  From the Roundabout Theatre Company revival: The Opening Night performance of the farce Nothing On is just hours away, and as the cast stumbles through their final dress rehearsal, things couldn't be going any worse. With lines being forgotten, love triangles unraveling and sardines flying everywhere, it’s complete pandemonium… and we haven’t even reached intermission! Can the cast pull their act together on the stage even if they can't behind the scenes?
Audition Dates: September 14-15, 2016; Callbacks: Friday September 16, 2016.
Performance Dates: November 4-5, 2016.

The 2017 CHS Winter Musical is Damn Yankees.  Based on the novel The Year The Yankees Lost The Pennant by Douglass Wallop, Damn Yankees the Broadway mega-hit and winner of 7 Tony Awards including Best Musical hits it out of the park! The winning score by Adler and Ross and a devilish book by George Abbot have made this sporty musical comedy a true American classic. Middle-aged baseball fanatic Joe Boyd trades his soul to the Devil, also known as Mr. Applegate, for a chance to lead his favorite team to victory in the pennant race against the New York Yankees. As young baseball sensation Joe Hardy, he transforms the hapless Washington Senators into a winning team, only to realize the true worth of the life he's left behind. Joe ultimately outsmarts Applegate, returns to his former self, and shepherds the Senators
to the World Series.
Audition Dates: Monday and Tuesday November 28-29, Dance: Wednesday November 30th.
Callbacks: Friday December 2, 2016.

Performance Dates: March 3-4, 10-11, 2017.

School-wide Shakespeare Competition

In order to prepare for the English Speaking Union's State Shakespeare Competition on February 28, 2016, we will be holding a school-wide competition in January 2016, date and time TBD.

You must prepare the following things, in order to be eligible to compete:

A Shakespearean Sonnet

A Shakespearean Monologue, which must be no more than 20 lines in length.

Both pieces must be fully memorized by our school competition in January.  If you need help finding pieces, please see me (Ms. Rochon) for assistance.  Good luck!

Here is a link for the info on the Shakespeare competition:

You can find all of the info you need there under student forms.  I will have hard copies for you tomorrow as well.  Basically, you need to have a monologue and a sonnet.  The monologue may be no more than 20 lines long, and the sonnet must be the full length.  Here is a list of suggested monologues:
